Every year, hundreds of American Bald Eagles visit Lake Coeur d’Alene on their annual migration. In December and January, these birds congregate at the lake’s northern end to feed on lake-bound salmon. For an up-close look, take one of the Lake Coeur d’Alene Cruise Boats to Wolf Lodge Bay. It’s an awe-inspiring sight to see these magnificent birds in the wild from the comfort of a cruise boat.

The eagles arrive from Canada and even as far away as Alaska, seeking milder climates for the winter. Lake Coeur d’Alene provides an ideal stopover with tree-lined shores and plenty of fish. Their primary meal is the Kokanee salmon, a landlocked sockeye that thrives in the lake and its tributaries. As salmon spawn and reach the end of their life cycle, they become an ideal food for the Eagles.
