Coeur d’Alene Symphony’s ‘Discover a New World’
Friday, May 04, 2018, 07:30pm

The 2017-18 season has truly been one of discovery for the Coeur d’Alene Symphony.
When Artistic Director David Demand left the symphony after 15 years, the organization set out to find a replacement and have had each of the five finalists conduct a concert this season.
So far, the symphony has discovered Europe with Pullman’s Danh Pham, the holidays with New York City’s Barry Araújo Kolman, generations with Houston’s Pierre-Alain Chevalier and genius with Spokane’s Jorge Luis Uzcategui.
During the season finale performances, Friday and Saturday at the Kroc Center, the symphony will “Discover a New World” with artistic director candidate Jan Pellant, of Lexington, Kentucky.
The concert, like the other candidate concerts, begins with an overture of the candidate’s choice.
Pellant will then lead the symphony in Richard Strauss’ Violin Concerto, featuring Grammy Award-nominated soloist James Buswell, and Antonin Dvorák’s Symphony No. 9, “From the New World.”
